Terms of Service
Last updated: July 5, 2026
Plain-language summary: BreakMate is a free app for students. Be respectful, don't misuse it, and remember that marketplace deals happen directly between students, so meet somewhere safe and public.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using BreakMate, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. Who can use BreakMate
BreakMate is for enrolled college and university students. You register with a valid school email address, and your campus is set from that email's domain. You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity on your account.
3. Acceptable use
Please use BreakMate respectfully. You agree not to harass, threaten, impersonate, or bully others; post illegal, hateful, or sexually explicit content; list prohibited items in the marketplace; spam, scrape, or overload the service; or misrepresent who you are or which school you attend. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these Terms.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. You can report any user or listing directly in the app, and block any user (Settings → Blocked users to manage). Reported content is reviewed within 24 hours; content that breaks these rules is removed, and users responsible for it are ejected.
4. Marketplace
The marketplace lets students buy and sell directly with one another. BreakMate is not a party to those transactions, doesn't process payments, and doesn't guarantee any listing, buyer, or seller. Arrange exchanges safely, ideally in public campus spaces.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant BreakMate a limited licence to store and display that content within the app so the service can function. You're responsible for the content you share.
6. Service availability
BreakMate is provided "as is," without warranties. We may change, pause, or discontinue features, and we don't guarantee the app will always be available or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, BreakMate is not liable for indirect or incidental damages, or for disputes arising from marketplace transactions or interactions between users.
8. Termination
You can stop using BreakMate and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm other users.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada.
